CWB LEVEL 2 WELDING INSPECTION SERVICES
Certified welding inspection and WPS/PQR review by a CWB Level 2 inspector. On-site welding QA for fabrication and construction in Alberta. Remote document review available worldwide.
CWB Level 2 Welding Inspection
CWB Level 2 is the Canadian Welding Bureau's advanced welding inspector certification. A Level 2 certified inspector can visually inspect welds and independently review and approve welding procedure specifications, assess procedure qualification records against code requirements, oversee welder qualification testing, and provide welding QA sign-off on documentation packages. This is the certification level required for independent third-party WPS/PQR review and for welding QA sign-off on projects governed by Canadian welding codes.
Norman QC holds CWB Level 2 certification alongside API 510 and API 570. Most welding inspectors hold only welding credentials, and most pressure vessel inspectors hold only API certifications. Having all three under one consultant means welding QA and mechanical inspection can be integrated from the start with consistent acceptance criteria and a single point of accountability for the inspection package.
Welding inspection is available on-site at fabrication shops and construction sites in Alberta. WPS/PQR document review is available remotely. Fabricators and engineering firms anywhere in the world can submit packages by email and receive a signed acceptance report.

FAQ
What is CWB Level 2 welding inspection?
CWB Level 2 is the Canadian Welding Bureau's certification for welding inspectors with advanced capabilities. A CWB Level 2 certified inspector can independently review and approve welding procedure specifications, procedure qualification records, and welder qualification records. This is the certification level required to provide welding QA sign-off on CSA W47.1 and related Canadian code projects, and it is recognized by the CWB Group for projects requiring certified welding inspection under Canadian standards.
What is the difference between CWB Level 1 and CWB Level 2?
CWB Level 1 inspectors can visually inspect welds and document conformance or non-conformance to acceptance criteria. CWB Level 2 inspectors have the additional qualification to review and approve welding procedures and procedure qualification records, oversee welder qualification testing, and provide welding QA sign-off on documentation packages. For independent third-party review of WPS/PQR documentation, Level 2 certification is required.
Can welding inspection be done remotely?
Visual weld inspection of physical welds requires on-site presence. Welding document review of WPS/PQR packages, welder qualification records, inspection reports, and fabricator quality documentation can be conducted remotely. Norman QC offers remote WPS/PQR review with signed PDF reports delivered worldwide for fabricators and engineering firms that need qualified document review without the cost of a site visit.
Do you provide welding QA for pressure vessel fabrication?
Yes. The combination of API 510 and CWB Level 2 certifications allows integrated pressure vessel inspection and welding QA under a single engagement. This covers pre-weld procedure review, in-process weld inspection, final inspection, and documentation sign-off by one inspector with credentials in both pressure equipment and welding.
What welding codes do you inspect to?
Primary welding codes covered include ASME Section IX (pressure equipment qualification), CSA W47.1 (Canadian structural and pressure equipment welding), AWS D1.1 (structural steel), and AWS D1.6 (stainless steel). Project-specific client supplementary welding requirements are reviewed alongside the governing code.
